Peeve: DIA. Jesus Christ missing the Resurrection because of a fouled-up connection, was there ever such a public clusterfuck of a mismanaged aerodrome *ever* in the history of mankind? First of all, the place is a year late opening because United stomped its widdle feet and insisted that baggage be thrown by slingshot^W"Automated Handling Systems" which eventually had to be scrapped after $250,000,000. Did United or BAE, the designer of this monument to engineering hubris, pay a penny? Did they fuck. The airport was placed dozens of miles away from major urban areas to avoid noise problems, but lo and behold the runways are exactly in line with some small towns whose citizens are not exactly thrilled with the idea of living on the climb out path, so now the traffic has to go through noise abatement procedures just like they did at Stapleton. I shouldn't mention runways that are just slightly too close together for simultaneous landings a la O'Hare, because you probably don't want to know about your tax dollars going to uselessly pave farmland. The final topping to this rancid dessert of peeves has to be the local microclimate: one can have overcast conditions in the whole Denver area, but only on the airport road and the airport itself will there be ground fog, and that thick enough to cut with a chainsaw. No bloody surprise the passenger terminal is under large tents: DIA was conceived and built by enough clowns for a truly stupendous circus. Francois.
