I muddled along. 

This blessing is not in disguise. SGI is, well, a regular
at fuckedcompany.com. 

I've learned something new all right - if you play your cards 
right, you can collect a metric fuckload of severance from the
same company several times on its way down. 

There's a career strategy - be the last guy hired on at big 
companies that will then lay you off with a couple months' 
severance. If you got good at picking them and doing it right,
you could have a multi-year paid vacation interrupted occasionally
with interviews and new hire orientations. 

Collect a lot of keen coffee mugs, too, I bet.
