I jingled the place here in town, and got an answering machine, the message on which detailed their hours. None of those hours included Sunday, so I decided to call a place in the next town west. The phone rang five, six times or so. I figured that they were closed, but in case they were open with one employee manning the ramparts (and having visions of that person holding down a string while trying to get a bit of tape off the roll or something), and decided to let it ring for awhile. After about the seventh ring, the Phone Company (Sprint) broke in with an announcement. "The party you are calling is not answering." Well, no fucking shit. Thanks for letting me know, otherwise I might have been found dead in this chair, and emaciated shell of my former self expired from starvation, the receiver pressed against my skull with the ring tone filling my empty cranium. My gratitude knows no bounds.
