1) Make a backup copy of pubring.pgp and secring.pgp
2) Revoke the key in question. The command is 'pgp -kd your_userid'.
PGP will guide you through all the steps necessary.
3) Extract your (revoked) key. The command is 'pgp -kxa your_userid'.
The file to which you extract your key now contains your certificate.
4) Move the certificate to a safe location, for example on a floppy
   in your mother's cupboard.
5) Delete pubring.pgp and secring.pgp, and restore the backed up copies
   of both.

Now you can use the key as you normally would, and when the key becomes
corrupted, you forget your pass phrase or something else happens that
prevents you from revoking the key normally, you just go visit your
mother and ask her for that floppy. Then you send the certificate to a
keyserver and all your friends.

there, no one is ever gonna find it there."
