I have a hard time in groups. One on one with a person is not bad, but
when I went to a pot-luck party a few months ago, I couldn't stand it.
When in a group setting, my mind automatically goes to "they don't
like me" mode and I feel very bad about myself in ways I have yet to
be able to articulate. I feel extremely uncomfortable and in what I'm
guessing is an attempt to control the situation, my facial
expressions, where I gaze and how I speak etc. put people off even
more. I hate this. It's always, "THEM" and then "ME", even if the
other people in the group don't know each other just like I don't
know them, in my mind they all like each other and don't like me. Not
sure where or how this started. I tend to not feel so much this way if
the group of people are mainly senior citizens. If they are in my age
group then it is very bad. This whole thing is a definate big issue
because I don't want to feel this way when around a bunch of people.
NOTE: if you saw me walking down the street, I can tell you right now
you would NEVER in a million years think or believe that I have this
problem - never. Not becasue I'm talkative or outgoing, but because I
just look like somebody who would have a bunch of friends and a
spouse.
Like you, many of my friends (the people who I felt I could be my best
self around AND who would never screw me over) moved to different
parts of the country at the same time I moved to where I am now.

You sound just exactly like me. I don't check the mail for days, and
I hate grocery shopping so badly that I am willing to live off of
bread and butter and water.
