Now that my 6000 Series Computer Systems Manual has arrived,
I read through it and find things I don't at all RCL.

First, did anyone here every work on a 7600 that was
front-ended by the 6000 Station? As far as I can tell
by the limited specs and the diagram, this machine was
a 6200 with an interface to a 7600 PPU channel.

Then, there's the CDC 6416 Augmented I/O Buffer and
Control unit. This was a box with 10 PPUs, 12 channels,
a real-time clock, and 16K words of CM.

The manual says that while it had no central processor,
it could be used as a stand-alone computer. Did anyone
ever see one of these used as a stand-alone controller?
The manual goes on to say typically it was used as an
upgrade to an existing system, connected to it by a
6682/6683 Satellite Coupler. In that configuration, it
was sometimes used as a batching terminal. In a variation
on that configuration, a sstem could have ECS interfaced
between the main system CM and the 6416 CM, which would
establish a memory hierarchy as follows:

    ECS as a system CM
Mainframe CM as a system CP memory
    6416 16K memory as a distributive memory

Two additional instructions were provided in a 6416 that
didn't exist in a normal barrel. These are Read Extended
Core Coupler Status (27, RCS) and the Extended Core Trans-
fer (26, ECT).
