I will fax Garmin tomorrow since I doubt they read this MOST USEFUL newsgroup. Thanks to all contributors and responders! ---------------------------------------------- I generally like the GPS-III Pilot, however, there are problems as to be expected in a new release. ---------------------------------------------- Two more bugs on vers. 2.01: 1. I wanted to enter a User Waypoint named K20. The III-Pilot told me that I already had a waypoint named K20. This was untrue. When I went searching, I found an airport in in the Southeast named K20. The unit is looking at all (most?) internal lists for duplicates. This is incorrect. It needs to operate like the G-90. Duplicates in separate lists must be handled. It is terribly inconvenient to have to try to outguess the Apt, VOR, NDB and whatever other lists to try to find an unused waypoint name. 2. There are only 5 spaces in the Goto Nearest table. Already too short waypoint names get truncarted even further. ---------------------------------------------- In the just plain silly list: The track line is WAY TOO LIGHT and WAY TOO NARROW to be seen. When one does a Goto, the default list should be the User list or at least, the last selected list. It is a pain while driving to have to scroll over, then down to get a goto installed. The list scrolling does not have a speed up like in the G-90. It is always one at a time. This can take a LONG time in a full waypoint list file. --------------------------------------------- Documentation problems: There is a small triangle on the outer rim of the HSI compass. It is not mentioned in the manual. Calling Garmin, I received a rather confusing answer. It is supposed to have something to do with OSB but is always active anyway. They were unable to say what it meant if OSB was not being forced. --------------------------------------------- In the 'Wish it was there" department: I wish there was a screen which just had boxes on it and I could assign a lot of stuff to the boxes. Just boxes, nothing else. I would like to see my own grouping of stuff. It should be easy to do. -------------------------------------------- Sorry, that's all I have so far, I only got it last Thursday. Mike Morrow
