After using the new Garmin MapSource (with US Roads & Recreation)
for a few days I feel the need to tell folks how pleased I am with
it. I've used many of the freeware and shareware programs available
for Windows for the last three or four years (with Garmin 45,
GPS III, and GPS III+), and Mapsource 3 is the greatest for editing
routes and waypoints. I especially like the ability to create and
edit routes using existing waypoints and creating new waypoints on
the fly. It also has the neat tracklog handling.

A few additional features would be nice.
- the ability to delete waypoints and routes (and tracks?) from
  the GPS
- the ability to sort waypoints by symbol
- it should have a way to "know" the features of your particular
GPS (waypoint name, length, which symbols are supported, etc).
- the ability to directly upload one or more waypoints or routes
(as mentioned in an earlier thread, you can open a second
Mapsource and copy specific items there to upload)

Of course, moving map features and full routing would be nice
but I can do fine without it.

Up until now Mapsource has been only useful if you have a
Garmin with uploadable maps -- now it's worth having even if you
never upload the maps (you *can* print them).
