There is no room for additional maps, and the Jepp updates are rediculous.

Garmin is working on downloadable updates that would be considerably
cheaper.  Since the GPS III Pilot is not IFR certified and really is VFR and
advisory only IFR, there is no need to keep the database updated on the
regular cycle.  The fact that you have an out of date database is no big
deal.  Garmin loads the most current available at the time of manufacture
and the date is an indication of the time it takes to make it through the
supply chain.

Once you start to play with it you will realize that there is no room for
additional maps because of the aviation data.  I am amazed at how much data
Garmin has been able to fit into the III Pilot.

The III Pilot is a great little tool.
