Hi,

I was the lucky recipient of a GPS V on Christmas morning! (I've been
using an eMap and eTrex Vista up until now.) I had the opportunity to
try it out as we drove from Massachusetts to Maryland for a few days
visiting friends.

Here's the wierdness. I had the City Select maps loaded for the area
around home and the area around our destination in Maryland. The unit
found a route that pretty closely matched the directions from the
friends that we were visiting. So far so good.

What I found was that once I was using the routable basemap, the unit
had trouble keeping track of where I was - but only while navigating.

It would continually tell me to go say SW to I95 (while I was on I95)
giving a distance to the next exit where I'd be able to get onto the
interstate. So, I figured the basemap is just off far enough that it
got confused. However, when I would take a turn that was different than
the route it had planned and it kicked into route planning mode, it
would immediately know what road I was on, ticking off the upcoming
exits, etc. This was consistent throughout the trip. If it wasn't
navigating, it correctly determined the road I was traveling on, if it
was navigating (on the basemap only) it was consistently confused.
Within the area where the City Select maps were loaded it was on target
perfectly.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior? Is it perhaps a problem with the
beta version?

Thanks,
