Hi Mark.

Are you aware of this site:
http://www.freedata.ca/index.html
Maybe a combined/collaborative effort is in order?

I'm willing to help out with your project, and/or
help in joining in with "the freedata folks".

I know a bit about the "Canadian names" - the actual source
is the provinces, even for the Federal geographic names database.
Other sources, such as the CIA, etc., actually all originate
from the Canadian data. In most cases, the Canadian data is old,
and was only recorded, for example, to the nearest minute, or
quarter minute, which is why the locations are "rounded off".
